We want your Small Stories from EAA Airventure Oshkosh 2015

This year, the crew at FlyOPA wanted to try something different. Inspired by Izzy Hyman’s Small Stories over at IzzyVideo.com, we thought it would be a great idea to have our viewers join in making some great content from EAA Airventure Oshkosh 2015.

The idea is simple, create a short video under 2 minutes that tells a story, any story, while at Oshkosh this year. You can use any cameras you want, but it doesn’t need to be too fancy. Just an iPhone and iMovie would be just enough to make a really cool story completely with titles and transitions between clips. The main idea is to make a video that tells a complete story, something with a beginning, middle, and end. Izzy Video has a great page detailing what a Small Story is and isn’t, as well as an example of a story he did which you can check out at www.IzzyVideo.com/small-stories-manifesto/.

Once you have completed your video, send us your video. If its really good, we may feature it on our YouTube channel! We will also be having a viewing part at Camp Bacon later in the week during Oshkosh so anyone will be able to come out and see the submissions and vote on the ones they like the best.

In addition to your videos, the crew at FlyOPA will also be making their own videos, so stay tuned to see those in the YouTube channel and at the Camp Bacon event as well.

Rules (From Izzy Video)

  • The total duration of the video is 2 minutes or under.
  • It’s a complete, self-contained story.
  • It has no pressure to be significant (or big). Small topics are perfectly fine.
  • It uses the techniques of video journalism such as interviews, B-roll, voice-overs, (properly licensed) music, etc.
  • It has no pressure to have high production value which means you can make it with whatever equipment you have, even a smartphone’s video camera and microphone.
  • It is a miniature, tiny documentary on a small topic.
  • Please do not use copyrighted music. Even if your video is the best one, we will not be able to feature the video on the FlyOPA YouTube Channel if it contains copyrighted music.

How to Submit

To submit, please export your video as a .mov or .mp4 file. If you are using an iPhone, simply save your completed video to the camera roll. You can also send us a YouTube link if you prefer to upload the video yourself. Click the giant blue button below to upload your OSHstory or send us the YouTube link.

Sample Small Story – Ardy & Ed’s Drive-In

Here’s a short video that we created to help get your creative juices flowing. Except for the opening graphics and the end credits, the video was shot and edited completely on an iPhone 6. Check it out.

Other Important Things…AKA The Fine Print

If we decide to feature your video on our YouTube channel, we reserve the right to edit the video by adding an intro segment and outtro or credit roll. We will however give you proper attribution in the video as well as in social media posts, website post, and the YouTube description as the creator of the Small Story.

Submission of the video does not guarantee you will be featured on the FlyOPA YouTube channel or at the event at Camp Bacon.

Camp Bacon Event

The date is still TDB, but later in the week at Airventure 2015 the crew will be putting on a viewing at Camp Bacon over in Camp Scholler. We will show our own Small Stories as well as submitted stories.

Camp Bacon is at the corner of Lindberg and Forest Home, 1 block south of the Red Barn. Here is a map with the exact location.
